Born as Hirdesh Singh whose height 5 ft 8 in (173 cm) and weight 73 Kg (161 Pounds) on 15th march in 1983 to a Sikh family at Hoshiarpur, Punjab is better known by his stage name Yo Yo Honey Singh or Honey Singh. Honey Singh picked up the slang ‘Yo Yo’ from his African-American friends, which when translated means aapka apna (your own). He is the one and one rapper, singer, music producer, music director and actor.
He took interest in music at the age of 13 while practicing the tabla and singing devotional songs in gurudwaras. He is Sikh by Religion, Sun Sign Pisces and Nationality Indian.
His father was a job holder in a company and his mother is a house wife. He passed his early education from Guru Nanak Public School, Punjabi Bagh, New Delhi. He made an early start of his musical study in in the Trinity school of United Kingdom. His whole family is a fan of music and for supporting development of his musical study, later moved to New Delhi. At present, Honey Singh lives with his family in DLF city, Gurgaon, India.
Honey loves partying in Dubai as he says that’s where he can go “full throtle”. The artist is also a sucker for sports car and owns an Audi R8. Singh is a fitness freak who cannot do without two hour workout every day. He is a huge cricket fan and loves driving.
Singh is married to Shalini Talwar Singh after having a love journey from his school life to 2011, whom he introduced to audiences for the first time on the television show India’s Raw Star.
Singh disappeared from the music scene in late 2014, before making a comeback the following year, but mostly avoided the media. He attributed his 18 month long absence from the public to his bipolar disorder in March 2016.
Honey Singh had been working in the Punjabi music industry for quite some long time. He was released his first Album Peshi (1998) and his first Single Glassy (2006).
Singh prefers to sing in Hindi and his native language Punjabi rather than English. He has performed at many college festivals, including Ansal Institute of Technology and Ramjas College, Delhi. He learned DJing from DJ Vishal and stood second in the “War of DJs”.
He quickly became popular when Punjabi album International Villager was released on 11 November 2011. Following the release of the album, he released many more songs and within just 2 years became a household name in India The track “Gabru” from the album, featuring singer J-Star, topped the Asian music charts, including the official BBC Asian charts.
